How a virtual number differs from a regular SIM
A regular SIM card is tied to your identity: it is bought with documents in many countries, it stays in your phone and every website you give it to can link your accounts together. A virtual number has none of that. It lives on the provider side, receives the one SMS you need and is then released.
For SMS verification this difference is the whole point. You keep your personal number private, you can register in services not available for your country's numbers, and a failed attempt costs nothing because an unused activation is refunded.
What it costs and how billing works
The catalog shows the live price for every service-and-country pair before you pay — the cheapest activations start at two cents, popular combinations like Telegram or WhatsApp cost from a few dozen cents depending on the country. The price you see is reserved from your balance when the number is issued.
If the SMS arrives, the reservation becomes the final charge. If it does not arrive within the activation window (up to 20 minutes), the activation is cancelled and the full amount returns to your balance automatically — no support tickets, no manual claims.
Choosing the right country
The same service can cost ten times more in one country than another, and delivery quality differs too. As a rule of thumb: pick the cheapest country first — if the service rejects the number or the code does not come, cancel and try a neighbouring region. Countries where our own delivery statistics show problems are marked in the catalog and moved to the bottom of the list.
SMSREC routes every purchase across several upstream number pools (virtual operators and real SIM pools) and picks the source that actually delivers for that service, so the country list you see is already filtered by real stock.
