When a temporary number is the right tool

Registrations you do not fully trust yet: new marketplaces, dating apps, forums, giveaways — anywhere the site asks for a phone 'to verify you' but you would rather not be in their SMS marketing list forever.

When it is NOT the right tool

Do not use a temporary number for accounts you plan to keep for years and cannot afford to lose — banking, government services, primary e-mail recovery. The number is released after the activation, so an account recovery SMS sent months later will not reach you. For long-lived accounts use your own SIM or a long-term rental.
